What You Want Out Of Life

Most people go through life not knowing what they want and then they wonder why they are not getting to reach their desired goals.

Well as a starter, you’ve got to realize that if you really want to do something and you know what it is, you’ll always find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse. The moment I’ve found what I wanted to do in my life, everything else faded in its importance.

So now that you know about what you want to do, how do you go about it in order to achieve your wildest dreams?

1. Remove all self imposed limitations from your mind. As you know, each one of us has a self. That self is molded through our relationships. The earliest relationships are some of our most forming – parental, family, caregivers etc…. The term self is a paradox because self cannot exist without other. Humanity’s existence is therefore defined by relationships. Relationships are fragile.

Oil Technology and What Makes the World Go Round

Being both an oil trader and financier and tech investor, I am frequently asked about my general views on the oil and tech sectors at large given the ever changing financial and political disturbances out there.

Well for a start, you might think that tech is today in a bubble as a company whose sole product is a photo sharing app in which the pictures get deleted after they are shared just turned down $3 billion.

Maybe.... But the reality is that even if there is a bubble in the making there are really no consequences. Unlike the late 90s, technology is now established. If one company blows up, other entrepreneurs will start a new one or join someone else. So If you really think about it, the cost of failure has never been so low, ever.

By the same token, and for the sake of argument, I don't think that the tech and software sector is even close to eating the world.

What Is This Obsession With Finding A Job?

Freedom! Independence! The dream of being on one’s own! That’s the American ethic, nurtured by tales of hardy immigrants who took their lives into their own hands to brave a new country and of all those pioneers pushing the frontier ever westward. 

Kept alive by fable and fact in our culture and in all of the thousands of school districts of this country, the persistence of this ethic must mean that we’re turning out kids who just can’t wait to be entrepreneurs, right? Wrong.

A national profile of the characteristics and attitudes of college freshmen, based on the responses of around 450,000 students who entered college in the fall of 2010, makes one wonder what happened along the road to the university. 

In keeping with the trend toward practical, job-related fields, almost one-fourth of the respondents to the survey, 21.3%, indicated their “probable field of study” would be in strictly business administration related subjects such as accounting, finance, management, and marketing. 

That percentage is a conservative estimate since it doesn’t include such closely related fields as industrial engineering, secretarial studies, data processing, and computer programming and sciences, which could bring the figure up to almost one-third of the total.
